Who is Akeem Carrington?
I am an outgoing, energetic, down to earth person who does whatever it takes to put a smile on anyone’s face when they’re down. I am respectable, ambitious and just want to be successful in everything I do. I also have a lot of love for my parents, especially my mom. She is my heartbeat and the one who motivates and encourages me to go after my goals and dreams. I want to do everything to be successful so that I can give back to her, so that she can see that all of the trials and tribulations she went through for me, will be repaid in the long run. No matter what and no matter how hard it may seem, I will never ever give up.
What does a typical day for you entail?
Working as a Landscaper, I sometimes have 3-4 jobs daily. Once my clients are happy, I am happy too. I also help out at home, which can include cooking and cleaning.
How do you remain focused?
I remain focused by saying a prayer to the almighty each and every morning, asking him to give me the strength to go through each and every day. I ask for blessings and the courage to do the best of my ability. I also remain focused by not letting negativity, bad vibes and bad energy get to me nor in my circle. I focus on the fact that all of my hard work will pay off in the end.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love that I can bring any property from bad to exceptional and perfection. I also love that when I’m finished, I can see the expression on my client’s face. I can create any kind of garden beds and I can cut down any kind of trees; I have the ability to do whatever it takes to make someone’s home look like a home. I basically have a green thumb; anything I plant grows – this is what I love most about what I do. I even love to hear the sound of my whacker, chain saw and lawnmower.
What made you decide to start your business?
I was always into gardening but I never actually took it seriously, because I was doing a lot of different things. However, in 2015, I started working with someone who had a business and I thought to myself that I should own my own business because I was good at it. In 2018 I told myself that it is time I owned my own landscaping business and I went ahead and started the business in that year. Honestly, it hasn’t been an easy road, but I just pray and I hope that someday my business expands and gets worldwide. I am thinking big; I would like to have workers etc.
Knowing that I have the ability to do anything in landscaping pushed me to start the business, especially because people always need their gardening done and trees cut. Honestly, having a landscaping business is one of the most amazing things in my life. I get to meet some really nice clients and I get to know that at the end of the day, I can go home and say to myself that I did it.
What advice would you give a budding entrepreneur?
Never give up. You need to believe in yourself and take every day as it goes. Being self-employed isn’t an easy thing, because for the first couple of months, it can be really frustrating and hard. However, once you stick with it, all of the hard work will pay off. My advice is to just pray to the almighty every day for the courage and strength needed, don’t let anyone talk you out of your idea. Stick to the plan and execute to the best of your ability and know that at the end of the day, whatever is for you, no one can take it.
