Tuesday Transformation - Kimisha King

Training Coordinator, Barbados Employers' Confederation

Who is Kimisha King?

I am a God-fearing, ambitious entrepreneur and a goal-oriented individual whose aim is to always ensure my sphere of influence is impacted and positive change can occur because of my strengths, knowledge and ability to always remain a student.

What does your day to day entail?

I ensure there is a smooth and effective functioning of training events and special projects. My trainer responsibilities include managing, designing, developing, coordinating, and conducting large or small-scale training programs. I also conduct organization-wide needs assessments in collaboration with client representatives to identify skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed.

Are you in the career field that you always wanted to be?

Absolutely not, however, it is the field I pursued which is Labour relations. I thought I wanted to be a lawyer but that changed. What I have recognized is that I love to talk and interact with people, so training became the right fit.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love that I play a critical role in ensuring that many are educated and informed about various legal and general aspects that are pertinent to every career across all sectors, “labour relations”.

What advice can you give someone currently on the job market?

Pursue your passion and stay focused and committed to seeing it straight through. Do not be distracted by instant gratification. It will take time to build up your career but if you have a vision for your life you will succeed. When you find something you love, chase it with all you have until you win!

Tell us your most memorable achievement to date.

I started my first business with less than $100 Canadian dollars at the age of 22.

What keeps you motivated, especially during tough days?

My vision. Whenever I feel hopeless I take a moment and pray then I remind myself of my vision and I revisit the dream then go again.
